스포츠토토 is a branch of journalism that reports on sports events and news. It includes newspapers devoted entirely to sports reporting (such as L’Equipe in France, La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, and the now defunct Sports Illustrated in America), sports-oriented magazine publications such as The Sporting News and Sports Weekly, all-sports talk radio stations, and television sports networks such as ESPN. In addition, there are a number of websites dedicated to providing sports news and analysis.
The first modern newspaper to have a dedicated sports department was founded by Joseph Pulitzer in 1883. Since then, sports departments in newspapers have grown in importance and size, to the point that many major papers now feature daily and Sunday sports sections separate from the main body of the paper. These sections often include their own editorials, cartoons, and columns written specifically by or for sports reporters.

In recent years, a growing number of sports journalists have turned their talents to long-form writing, producing popular books on a variety of sporting subjects. These books are usually written from an objective and analytical perspective, although there is some room for subjective opinion in the case of autobiographies and other highly personal accounts.
Some sports teams have not been very accommodating to journalists, limiting interview access or denying it altogether after games. However, in the United States, where football and baseball are hugely popular, most teams do allow interviews to take place in their locker rooms after a game.
