Founded by Northamptonshire newspaper publisher Vivian Brodzky, and edited by the great Northern sports writer Bert Callis, Boxing News was sold twice in quick succession before coming under the control of editor Graham Houston. He introduced the tradition of presenting an unabridged fight report for each bout, and he brought in the renowned referee Carlos Padilla Jr to take charge of the judging at ringside. It was under his watch that BN became the first weekly newspaper to broadcast boxing live from a ring.
